First, let’s know what is self confidence? It simply means having faith in the things you believe, the actions you take, and decisions that you make. People you see around yourself who are very confident about themselves aren’t like that since their birth, they have gone through a lot of hardships or have worked on themselves consciously or subconsciously to become what they are today.

Why a lack of self-confidence is a problem

When you lack self-confidence you keep on doubting yourself. You might be good at something and would be receiving compliments or appreciation for that but you won’t be able to accept that appreciation wholeheartedly. Let’s Understand it with an easy example, let’s go back to school days when you where in 2nd Grade, If a teacher asks you “what is 3 times 2?” and you answered “6” but your teacher again repeated the same question with a weird face “what is 3 times 2?”, now you will probably doubt yourself due to lack of confidence at that tender age. You will never be able to know your true potential due to a lack of self-confidence but don’t be hopeless, that can also be improved.

How to be More Confident

How to be confident and how to look confident are two separate things. Here we are going to know how to be confident. How we all can be confident about our work, skills, knowledge, and personality. Below I have given some tips that you can implement to become more confident about yourself.

  • Teach or Help someone- This one can do wonders for you. If you know a skill or have knowledge about a certain topic then you must help someone who is in need of that skill or knowledge. If you are not confident enough about your skill then you can also teach that skill to someone else who wants to learn that skill. By doing this you can gain a lot of confidence in the knowledge you possess.
  • Accept Mistakes and learn- Now you might think that accepting mistakes can reduce your confidence but let me inform you that this is not what happens in the long run. When you accept your mistakes warmly and learn from them you actually end up being more confident than before because now you have learned something new and you won’t repeat that mistake again. Learning from mistakes won’t just make you only confident but will also help you achieve some great things in life.
  • Groom yourself and Dress Nicely- Now here I’m not saying to go out and buy some fancy trendy dresses. A morning shower, shave, and dressing nicely are the only things needed. Being nicely dressed up subconsciously increases your self-confidence because when you see yourself in the mirror in the most presentable way you automatically start feeling much better and confident.
  • Kill Negativity- If you are surrounded by negativity then you might never become confident. Negative thoughts will keep on coming in your mind and those thoughts will force you to doubt your actions and future. To increase your self-confidence you need to cut off the supply of negative energy and to do that you have stopped interacting with people who mostly talk about negative things and blame others for their problems. Consuming positive content by reading good books or watching inspiring movies is a great way to avoid negative thoughts.
  • Accept Compliments- Don’t just thank the person who gave you a compliment but also ask for the details or ask what exactly did they like. When you get compliments for your skill or one of your qualities, do perceive it as a sign of improvement or growth, and don’t forget about it after a while.

Levels and signs of Self-confidence can be different for different people but we have to understand the fact that self-confidence comes from the inside and is about how we see our self in society or a particular situation. A wound that can’t be seen from the outer shell of skin but sometimes depression is more serious than any chronic disease. In my 15 Years of School & College life, They never taught me how to handle a depressed situation in life. They never taught me what to do at a depressed moment or when I am feeling low. They only taught that one day you need a job but didn’t teach how to handle the situation when you are fired from that job or you lost all your money in your business.

It’s the shitty thing we and our community are lacking. Saying that depression is just about feeling sad is just like saying the flu is only about sneezing. Individuals with depression experience a very severe level of sadness. You started feeling disturbed, lonely, and other toxic substances for temporary relief. Sadness is a core feature of depression. However, a key difference between sadness and depression is a difference of degree. Unlike sadness, depression is also highly impairing and is likely to affect every aspect of a person’s life, including social relationships, work, and physical health.

What’s more, the effects of depression reach way beyond sadness. this is the first leading mental illness that people suffering from. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s ability to think and can change people’s behavior. There are different types of depressive disorders including major depressive disorder and persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia). Fortunately, Depression is treatable but the only thing I feel is a lack of people’s knowledge or awareness about its treatment. Some don’t know that they are in depression while some think it will go away with time.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 8.1 percent of American adults ages 20 and over had depression in any given two week period from 2013 to 2016.


How Is Depression Treated?

This is among the most treatable of mental disorders. But what I have seen that 70 percent of people with depression eventually didn’t respond well to treatment. They either leave treatment in between or not taking medication or consultation regularly. Almost many of patients gain some relief from their symptoms.

Before a diagnosis or treatment, a health professional should conduct a thorough diagnostic evaluation, including an interview and possibly a physical examination. In some cases, a blood test might be done to make sure the depression is not due to a medical condition like a thyroid problem. The evaluation is to identify specific symptoms, medical and family history, cultural factors, and environmental factors to arrive at a diagnosis and plan a course of action.


Brain chemistry may contribute to an individual’s depression and may factor into their treatment. For this reason, antidepressants might be prescribed to help modify one’s brain chemistry. These medications are not sedatives, “uppers” or tranquilizers. They are not habit-forming. Generally, antidepressant medications have no stimulating effect on people not experiencing depression. Some patient also prescribed sleeping pills to cope with insomnia but this is a habit-forming medicine and not  given more than 4 week

Antidepressants may produce some improvement within the first week or two of use. Full benefits may not be seen for two to three months. If a patient feels little or no improvement after several weeks, his or her psychiatrist can alter the dose of the medication or add or substitute another antidepressant. In some situations, other psychotropic medications may be helpful. It is important to let your doctor know if a medication does not work or if you experience side effects.

Psychiatrists usually recommend that patients continue to take medication for six or more months after symptoms have improved. Longer-term maintenance treatment may be suggested to decrease the risk of future episodes for certain people at high risk.


Psychotherapy, or “talk therapy,” is sometimes used alone for treatment of mild depression; for moderate to severe depression, psychotherapy is often used along with antidepressant medications. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been found to be an effective treatment. CBT is a form of therapy focused on the present and problem-solving. CBT helps a person to recognize distorted thinking and then change behaviors and thinking.

Psychotherapy may involve only the individual, but it can include others. For example, family or couples therapy can help address issues within these close relationships. Group therapy involves people with similar illnesses.

Depending on the severity of the depression, treatment can take a few weeks or much longer. In many cases, significant improvement can be made in 10 to 15 sessions.

Self-help and Coping

The only advice I can give anyone who is suffering from anxiety, depression, low self-worth, suicidal thoughts is to please reach out and tell someone how you are feeling. You are not alone. Asking for help is not a weakness, but such an unbelievable act of courage.

There are a number of things people can do to help reduce the symptoms of depression. For many people, regular morning walk helps create positive feelings and improve mood. Getting enough quality sleep on a regular basis, eating a healthy diet, and avoiding alcohol or any toxic substance (a depressant) can also help reduce symptoms of depression.

Depression is a real illness and help is available. With proper diagnosis and treatment, the vast majority of people with depression will overcome it. If you are experiencing symptoms of depression, the first step is to see your family physician or psychiatrist. Talk about your concerns and request a thorough evaluation.

अजीब बात है लेकिन सच है,जानते सब है लेकिन मानता कोई नहीं। हाँ शायद अभी तक हम इस काबिल ही नहीं बने की इस अहसास को स्वीकार पाए.
अक्सर हम देखते है,हर जगह देखते है और उसे अनदेखा कर देते है. सुनते है और सुन कर भी अनसुना कर देते है. महसूस भी करते है लेकिन उसके खिलाफ कभी आवाज़ नहीं उठा पाते। यह हम अपने आपमें कभी इतने हिम्मती ही नहीं हुये की उसके खिलाफ कभी बोल पाए.
आप भी सोच रहे होंगे की मै क्या किस बारे में बात कर रही हूँ,मै बात कर रही हूँ बॉडीशेमिंग की.
क्‍या कभी आपने अपने बारे में खुद से नकारात्‍मक बातें सुनी हैं, यानी आपको खुद लगा हो कि आपके शरीर में ये कमी है। या फिर आपने अपनी तुलना औरों से की और आपको हीन भावना का आभास हुआ हो, तो यह बॉडी शेमिंग है।.
हमे सबसे ज़यादा बॉडी शेमिंग का अहसास होता है अपने आस पास के मौहोल से। आपने सुना ही होगा आपने की वह मोटा है तो वह काला है। तुम इतने दुबले क्यों हो कुछ खाते क्यों नहीं । तुम इतने मोटे क्यों हो -डाइटिंग करो. वह काली वाली लड़की। कभी कभी तो हम उस इंसान को उसके नाम से बुलाने की बजाये उसे मोटा,पतला यह काला कह कर बुलाते है. मैंने यह हर जगह देखा है और काफी बार मह्सूस भी किया है कभी कुछ बोला नहीं। शायद हिम्मत ही नहीं जुटा पायी कभी।

हमेशा यह खायाल आता है की क्या किसी को उसके मोटे ,पतले ,गोरे काले इन सब चीज़ो को लेकर जज करना सही है ??क्या कभी हम ने सोचा है की जिस इंसान को हम मोटा काला कह कर बुला रहे है उस इंसान पर क्या गुज़रती होगी.
हम इन चीज़ो को लेकर कभी भी किसी को दोषी नहीं कह सकते।बचपन से ही तो देखते आये है टीवी चैनल पर,हर जगह – गोरे बनाने वाली क्रीम ,यह हाइट बढ़ने वाली दवा। अगर काली हो तो’शादी नहीं होगी।
आज भी हम बहत सरे पैसे खर्च कर देते है इस तरह के प्रोडक्ट पर .मै यह नहीं कहती की कोई भी इस तरह क्रीम लगाना गलत है बल्कि मेरा बस यह मानना है की काले होना ,कम शकल होना ,कम हाइट का होना किसी की कुरूपता की निशानी नहीं मानी जाना चाहिए।
हर इंसान को वह जैसा है उसे वैसे ही स्वीकार करना चाहिए।
मै इस बात को मानती हूँ की हर में कमी होती है कोई पूर्ण नहीं होता पर किसी का काला होना ,नाटा होना ,दुबला होना ,मोटा होना यह कोई कमी नहीं है.यह एकदम नार्मल है। जैसे कोई गोरा है,तो वैसे ही कोई काला है। कोई दुबला है तो कोई मोटा है। कोई लम्बा है तो किसी की लम्बाई काम है। यह एकदम नार्मल है.
अगर आप अपने आस पास किसी ऐसे वयक्ति को देखते है जो की बॉडी शेमिंग का शिकार है ,तो उसके पास जाए और उसे अहसास कराये की वह इंसान अपने आप में अच्छा है.कई बार आपके कहे गए कुछ तारीफ के शब्द सामने वाले इंसान के कॉन्फिडेंस को वापस ला सकते है.उसके चेहरे पर एक प्यारी सी मुस्कान ला सकते है।
